Kevin Epps

Kevin Epps is a filmmaker who has spent his entire life in Bayview-Hunters Point and has created a series of films very pointedly addressing his community, the residents, and the notions of progress that they internalize as well as those that have been imposed on them. In Straight Outta Hunters Point, Epps takes a look at the current state of the once thriving neighborhood of Hunters Point in San Francisco. The film is an emotionally intense reality check that focuses on the daily drama of gang-related rap wars that plague a community fighting for social and economic survival. His latest film, Rap Dreams, chronicles the experiences of three upcoming Bay Area rappers as they strive for progress in their careers. The film follows young performers like the egotastically hyper Kev Kelley, the gritty working-class Hectic, and the fully-pimpinŐ antics of Mistah FAB, as they work for acceptance and success in the vibrant and often violent Oakland and San Francisco underground hip hop scene.
